The Perfect Valentine

I read about doing this on a blog yesterday.  I will edit this post to link to it when I figure out just how to do that (!).

I made the sweetest Valentine’s for our Sunday School teachers today.  I took a regular Hershey Bar and wrapped it in scrapbook paper.  I punched out a sweet tag in a coordinating paper and added a heart sticker.  It’s the perfect Valentine!  It’s cute, sweet, inexpensive and chocolate!  I think I may do these for my children’s classes next year.   I would need 40 Hershey bars, so I would definitely have to start stockpiling coupons and looking for 3 for $1 deals.  But they are so adorable!  Who wouldn’t want one?

A Great Read

I started reading Bonnie’s Household Organizer by Bonnie McCullough today.  It’s fantastic and has so much practical information for running a household.  Years ago before I was married and as a newlywed I read  many homekeeping books.  But I worked full-time and my husband traveled, so keeping the house was fairly easy.  Once the kids came along, I quit working full-time,  and especially when hubby quit traveling, I lost my handle on the house.  This book has encouraged me!!  I read about it on another blog and ordered it from Amazon.com.

I have been so busy since I set up this blog that I haven’t had time to really learn about how to post photos, link to other blogs, set up my own RSS feed, and so on.  I’m hoping to get a handle on all of that in the next few weeks so that I can start linking up with some of the amazing bloggers out there who are helping me so much and linking to the great ideas that are out there.  My plans for this blog are starting to take shape:  A place to share my journey in life…recipes, freezer cooking, gift ideas, projects, family traditions and family night devotionals, books I’ve read or want to read, library tidbits, things God is teaching me, and, of course, the pursuit of owning our own home someday (and learning to be content no matter where my butt is!)…Stay tuned!

Roadblocks

My husband works shift work.  When he is home, he wants me to be with him.  Someday I’ll explain why (other than trying to be obedient and respect my husband’s wishes) I drop everything to do that.  Unfortunately when I’m off having fun with my hubby or working on projects that he wants to work on, there is no one here scrubbing toilets and putting laundry away.  And before I know it, it’s time to pick up the kids.

My kids are 8 and 10.  We have basketball on Monday night, ballet and basketball on Tuesday night, www.awana.org  on Wednesday night (I drive 6 kids every week plus serve as secretary).  Thursday nights are generally free.  Weekends bring two or more basketball games, sleepovers, birthday parties, and church.  I see my job as full-time mom on the weekends and from 3 to 9 everyday.

I am going to have to be more intentional about doing my daily tasks.  The housework is piling up.  The laundry is clean, but in stacks in the den instead of in the drawers.  The bathrooms are a mess.  The cupboards are bare.  Time to get to the homemaking part of my job!!

Home

Welcome to my blog.  I am starting this blog to remind myself all of the reasons I wanted to be a stay at home mom and what that means to me.  We are living in circumstances that aren’t that great in an effort to save for a new home of our own. I have really become lax about my housekeeping and my attitude stinks because I just never thought I would be living like this.  The Lord got hold of my heart this week and showed me how wrong my attitude is and that I need to make some changes.  My aunt once told me that, “home is where your butt is” and she was absolutely right!  For now, even though it’s not my ideal place to live, this is where my butt is and I need to go about the business of making it a home for my family!  Join me on my journey… I need all of the support that you creative, Godly women can give!!
